We had a contact in Tathra from Janelle's bro-in-law Brenton. His cousins are from Tathra so we rang them up and said hi. They were working at the Tathra family caravan park and said they had been expecting a call. Perfect! We arrived and met Sue and Pete who live in Tonga for half the year with Brenton's dad Walt, and spend the other half back in Tathra with their boys and families. The park was a beauty right on the beach with a sweet water park which we hit straight away. We went to check out the beach and Zane went for a quick dip and got sucked out by a rip in the waves! Pretty powerful stuff!
Sue and Pete cooked us up a BBQ and we chatted about life in Tonga and travel adventures - great people!
The next morning Zane went for a paddle in the Bega river and then we went for a drive to Eden to check out the killer whale museum - awesome! Definetly worth seeing. The museum is in memory of a killer whale known as Old Tom who led a pod of killer whales and cooperated together with humans to hunt whales off the coast of Eden in the late 1800's. The only museum of its kind dedicated to killer whales.
That afternoon Zane and Pete collected beach worms for fishing and later that afternoon caught some whiting and Tommy's. Zane went back in the morning and caught some more. Great fun. We said farewell to Sue and Pete with a promise to see them again maybe even in Tonga.
We just love the coast of NSW. So many beautiful beaches, coastlines and headlands, clean water full of seafood and surfers! We just wish we could stay longer and next time bring a surfboard!
We are heading inland again and travelled through some more beautiful scenery on the highway toward the Snowy Mountains and on the way Janelle checked out the Bega cheese factory and got some tasty for lunch.
