After the final week of work, a weekend of Christmas parties and a mad Sunday of finalising the pack out, Monday morning we hit the road on our big adventure. Farewell to Nonno and Grandad Bill, Uncle Bindi and Uncle Brolga and cousins Fletch and Cooper and thanks for seeing us off with mixed feelings of joy, anxiety and a little sadness. We had a great day of Christmas Carols and Nativity/petting zoo at church on Sunday and this was a wonderful final day for Stella and us.
First stop Townsville to see Nanny and Papa Doc, friends and extended family. The X-trail held up well, we sat on 90 k's for most of the trip and all went well. We had a quick stop over in Ingham as Stella was understandably over it and we had some lunch in the park under the shade of a tree. Yep this is going to be great, we got this!
Arriving at the lights near Townsville we jumped out of our skin when a big man wearing a helmet knocked suddenly on the drivers window to laughingly let us know the leg from the trailer had swung loose. First rookie error of the trip - tying off some rope to secure the bike tyre to the handle of the trailer leg pulled the handle to release the leg. Luckily old mate bikie was nice enough to let us know!
It didn't take Stella long to make herself at home and with her new found best friend Lucy the poodle/terrier she was roaming the house at will. At breakfast Stella pointed at her grandma and said "Nanny!" Too clever this kid.
That sums up our first days of travel to T'ville. I have work to do on the camper and Janelle has Christmas shopping to do and Stella has grandparents to fuss over her and maybe a Christmas photo with Santa.
Cheers
