Binna Burra Lodge in Lamington National Park was our next stop. We camped in the rainforest sites with views of the valley and far away Coastal high rises. It was overcast and rained throughout the stay but it didn't hinder the experience. We pitched the tarp and set up in around an hour, thanks to 5 year old neighbour Beth who played with Stella, and our neighbours were quite impressed with our speedy set up. It was their first night of a 12 month trip and we had lots to talk about!
We hiked up to a lookout and on the return we took turns nursing Stella in our arms, good workout. The rainforest was similar to the hikes in the rainforests of Cairns and we found a few leeches on each other during the walk.
The Sunday morning we drove to Mount Tamborine to check out the small town attraction known as The Gallery Walk - cafes, art galleries, antiques, cheese, fudge, cuckoo clocks and Zane's favourite the MT brewery where he "shared" a taster paddle with Janelle. It was an overcast day but we had a nice time in the mountain town cruising around and there were some spectacular views of the valleys and mountains on the return to Binna Burra.
Stella had a great time with her new friends Beth and Rory, the twins next door and her favourite past time would be chasing the scrub turkeys around the campsite.
We all drove back to Burleigh for a visit to see Uncle Brolga, Auntie Belinda and cousins Fletcher and Cooper while they were on holiday and it was great to see family again, the boys are getting bigger and Stella loved running amok with Fletcher in the kids zone. Pretty scary drive back up the range at night with heavy fog, you could hardly see the road. It was a big relief when we finally got back to base camp.
It was great to get up into the Gold Cost hinterlands to escape the heat and the crowds for a week and now we are ready to head inland on our way to Tamworth for the country music festival yeehaa!
