We farewelled Sydney, drove through a huge underground tunnel and paid the toll. We are on our way to Jervis Bay. We stopped in Kiama, had some breakfast and let Stella have a play in the park. It was very hot, the water looked amazing, but we forgot to take out our swim gear! We checked out the Kiama blowhole which wasn’t blowing hard, as it was a calm day. The views were spectacular and we would have liked to have stayed in Kiama a few days. That’s the problem with south coast NSW, everywhere is beautiful! We pushed on to Jervis Bay and arrived at the Bodoree National Park gates. Even day visitors to the park must pay. The girls at the gate turned us away, saying that the campsite was fully booked. After a long day of travel, we couldn’t believe it. Fortunately we had phoned the day before and the lady had said there was plenty of camping available. So we marched on in to the information centre and came back out with a campsite number for Greenpatch campground. We did a super quick set up (under 30 mins without the tarp) and hit the beach. The beaches in Jervis Bay are lovely. Very white sand and clear water. We swam and snorkelled and Stella had a ball in the sand. Then we headed to the Huskisson Pub to meet Katrina (pharmacist friend from Uni) and her family. A great pub with some live music and right near the water. We finished dinner and Stella played with her new friends Jonah and Lucas.
Our second day in Green Patch was a rainy one. Our campsite was also dirt and we hadn’t put up the tarp. Everything was wet and muddy, and the tent leaked water where it pooled from the rain - into Stella’s cot! We will be setting the tarp up from now on if the weather looks iffy. Zane went for a hike to the Sea Eagle trail and then we all went to Murrays beach and Hyams beach for a look. Another beautiful spot even if it was rainy and overcast.
There was an abundance of wildlife around our campsite and you had to make sure food and scraps were sealed in buckets or the scrub turkeys, wallabies, magpies, ducks and crimson rosellas raided and made a mess. It was great to see them up close however and Stella had fun saying "hello" to them all.
