Travelling from Yamba we called in at Nambucca heads for lunch with Judy and Tony. Judy was a family friend from Cairns and we had coffee by the river mouth before driving to their lovely home for lunch. We drove on to Byron Bay and the first Caravan Park was in town but had terrible options for our camper. We drove about 3 km from town and were rewarded with a beautiful camp site surrounded by gum trees and a pond with resident ducks for Stella to greet. Byron Bay was very cool as we expected! Buskers in the street, little hippie stalls and shops, an amazing health store "Santos" that Janelle had been excited to visit and of course the beach, lighthouse and walking tracks. We did a day trip into the mountains and cruised the main street of Nimbin. Got offered many types of weeds and cookies! Some interesting shops, funky smells and asthmatic patrons... We did the candle museum and Stella was excited about her pink doggy candle!
On the drive back to Byron Bay we called into "the farmhouse" a locally owned organic farm with a bar and restaurant that sells local produce. Again inspiring us to get green thumbs on our return to Cairns.
We walked along Cape Byron to the lighthouse and enjoyed the most easterly views in Australia. We would love to come back to this area and spend a month surfing and fishing and being hippies.
