In June last year we met with friends Marty and Jenna for dinner. They were in Cairns for a wedding and had other family at dinner. We met Jenna's cousin Steve who is a pharmacist in Bombala and Janelle and Steve got talking pharmacy and Janelle told him about our travel plans. Steve said if we were ever out his way to look him up and we could stay on his property. Eight months later and Steve received a text from Janelle to see if the offer still stood. He said absolutely, he was happy for us to visit.
We drove from Tathra up into Snowy Mountains territory. Bombala is a small town famous for its population of platypus and lavender. We drove into town and met Steve who gave us directions to his property. What a spectacular view from his house overlooking rolling hills and sheep who Stella greeted with "baa".
After our setup we went to the info centre and looked at the history of Bombala and Stella smelt some lavender flowers.

Dinner was to be whiting and Tommy that Zane caught in Tathra shared with our our generous host. We talked shop with Janelle and Steve discussing pharmacy and Zane and Steve fishing and hunting. That night was quite cold and we broke out the thermals for the first time.
The next morning Zane and Steve threw some pots in his dams for redclaw. We drove to the platypus reserve to see if we could spot one. No luck. We went on a family hike to Myamba gorge and Stella was adamant she would walk. This took a long time to pace at mini Stella steps and she also likes to stop and pick up sticks. We spotted some wombat scat and found the nearby burrows and saw some skinks and birds.
Zane and Steve had success with the redclaw gathering and we went back to the Bombala river at dusk for another chance to glimpse the elusive platypus.
Thar she blows! A "swimming v" in the water followed by a small bill breaking the surface. Platypus Ahoy!
The following morning Janelle baked a berry brekky tart and we farewelled Steve. Thanks Steve we had a great time in Bombala.
